  • Overview

    The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for Processing payroll, monitoring time and attendance, auditing associated records, and field related employee inquires and concerns.

    Responsibilities

    • Accurately process multi-state payroll on a semi-monthly basis for exempt and non-exempt employees in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
    • Audit timesheets to ensure proper payment for work hours and exception time.
    • Reconcile overtime earnings, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, voluntary deductions, and third party sick pay.
    • Calculate and input bonus and stock option payments.
    • Address employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies as required.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state regulations governing payroll practices.
    • Review and maintain payroll records.
    • Track utilization of time off benefits and maintain point-in-time accrual and balance data.
    • Prepare year-end adjustments and reporting necessary to reconcile and distribute W-2s.
    • Prepare manual checks as necessary.
    • Assist in document collection and review for internal audits.
    • Update employee data (tax withholdings, direct deposit, temporary deductions, etc.) as necessary.
    • Participate in problem-solving and special projects within the Finance and Administration department.
    • Organizes, stores, and retrieves information on paper documents in file cabinets onsite and in boxes offsite at a record storage facility.

    Qualifications

    • Excellent analytical skills with a strong attention to detail, accuracy, and methodical problem solving.
    • Must possess advance knowledge of payroll processes, best practices, systems, and tax law, as well as thorough understanding of FLSA standards.
    • Must possess excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to perform in a team environment. 
    • Must be proficient in MS Office applications; strong Excel skills required.
    • Superior attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability operate in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving, and data and timeline-driven environment necessary.
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality as necessary and required. 
    • Should possess the ability/desire to help the team beyond core payroll functions.
    • Associate’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
    • 3-5 years of experience processing multi-state US payroll for 250+ employees.
    • Recent experience with Paylocity or ADP strongly desired.
