  • Overview

    The EHS Technician will ensure compliance to the waste management procedures and to support the EHS Department in enforcement of EHS policies and procedures.


    • Inspect work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state and federal safety policies and regulations. Develop and promote a culture that delivers safe workers and a safe work place..
    • Chemical satellite area monitoring and documentation. Monitor chemical satellite areas in lab areas for full chemical waste bottles, proper labeling techniques, correction of wrong techniques and collection of full waste bottles down to the chemical waste storage area. 
    • Weekly hazardous waste collections (RMW and chemicals) from lab areas. Maintain metrics for waste disposal and monitor chemical satellite accumulation areas (SAAs).
    • Responsible organization and documentation for the Hazardous Waste Storage area.
    • Conduct monthly inspection emergency lighting, AEDs and fire extinguishers. Maintain first aid cabinets, spill control kits and two-way radio inventory.
    • Perform weekly test check of showers and eyewash stations (replace portable eye wash bottles; refill gravity fed stations and pressurized eyewash cylinders).
    • Oversee Universal Waste coordination and recycling program (i.e. electronic wastes, bulbs and plastics) as well submit annual recycling report.
    • Package meters and/or instrumentation out for calibration, maintain database of equipment for PMs for liquid scintillation counters and centrifuges. Perform periodic radiation surveys.
    • Assist EHS with facility audits, chemical inventories and corrective actions as it pertains to identify hazards, recommend preventative measures and corrective actions
    • File Safety data sheets (SDSs) as well as update electronic versions for departments.
    • Ensure health and safety policies are strictly adhered to at all times.
    • Review and report variances to established practices in the safety and environments policy.
    • Assist in other duties as assigned by the EHS Manager as it pertains to personal protective equipment, equipment inventory, spill response, fire safety/evacuation and compliance reporting.


    Associate's degree or a degree in Safety or related field preferred.  A recognized safety certification a plus, 1-4 Years of Safety Experience, manufacturing environment preferred. OSHA 10 hour in General  Industry a plus. Certified in CPR/First Aid a plus


    • Highly organized, excellent communication skills, reliable and attention to detail is critical. 
    • Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards in accordance to state law.
    • Knowledge of related federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Ability to work well with all levels of employees and staff
    • Proficient in computer software programs such as WORD, EXCEL and PowerPoint)
    • Team member of Safety Committee, MERT and Evacuation Team

         The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

    • Engage in physical labor including lifting, pulling and pushing physical objects (e.g., carboys on dollies).
    • May be required to wear respirator and cleanroom gowning
