We are seeking an Assistant Controller, Financial Reporting to be responsible for managing all general ledger activity as well as the preparation of monthly financial statements.  Leads the preparation of the quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements (10Q & 10K), including ensuring SEC reports are in XBRL format and transmitted timely to the SEC.  Directly responsible for ongoing federal grant reporting.


  • Assists in the preparation of the Company’s monthly financial statement package for senior management review and discussion, including balance sheet, profit and loss statement, cash flow statement, and other financial analysis as required.
  • Analyzes monthly results and compares with the annual budget, investigating unusual or unexpected results. Revises forecasted results where applicable on an income statement and cash flow basis.
  • Prepares reports and related documents as required by the SEC for financial reporting, (Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, etc.) and special registrations/projects as they arise. Translates SEC reports into XBRL format.
  • Prepares analytics and supporting documentation in support of quarterly and annual filings.
  • Interacts heavily with the Company’s outside public accounting firm.
  • Maintains a program for monitoring and controlling Federal research grant activity.
  • Works with Senior Management and department managers to ensure that internal controls over processes and procedures are in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring Company insurance coverage, including clinical trials outside the US, preparation of the annual insurance applications, and expense tracking.
  • Works with outside tax consultants to prepare the Federal and State income tax returns and provides required supporting information.
  • Keeps up-to-date on important recent accounting and SEC reporting issues and how they impact the Company’s operations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline with at least 8 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Current CPA license/designation required with prior public accounting experience.
  • Prior experience supporting a commercial pharmaceutical/biotech company is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines, handle multiple, concurrent priorities, and work well under pressure. 
  • Solid analysis, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.  Excellent attention to detail and follow-through skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Experience managing a small staff of accountants
